Guillermo Bátiz Cano

Guillermo Bátiz Cano is Mexican composer, sound artist land translator living in Sydney, Australia. Since 2004, Memo has composed and performed with musical ensembles across international avant-garde festivals such as MUTEK, Plataforma and Interface, alongside musicians like Murcof, Sigur Rós, Telefon Tel Aviv, Manrico Montero and Justice. Bátiz made the transition to gallery artist in 2015 with his project “The Plant Symphony”, an audio-visual installation composed using the bio-emissions of plants. The project has encompassed residencies and installations at Centennial Park, the Australian Botanic Garden, BEAMS Festival, Bundanon Trust and Wollongong Art Gallery. A third facet of the artist is poetry, which he writes recurrently as part of his creative process. In 2012 Guillermo co-presented a workshop series Mexico City in collaboration with poet Tamryn Bennett, the visual artist Pachiclón and Ediciones Acapulco about Comics-Poetry at the Centro de Cultura Digital. Bátiz has translated poetry for Tamryn Bennett and Juan Garrido Salgado.
